Thinning Hair Questions

Thinning Hair

This is another big topic from our survey for both males and females. Are their differences between males and females for why hair thins? What are they?

Males will often suffer with what is known as Alopecia premature, which is male pattern baldness, this is not to say that women cannot suffer with the same thing. The main cause of baldness is a hormone called DIHYDROTESTOSTERONE, more commonly known as the stress hormone. This is more common in males but women also have this hormone. This hormone is excreted through the pores on the scalp. When exercising and you perspire you will excrete this hormone, and if your hair is not shampooed immediately afterwards, this hormone along with salt and oil will clog your pores and cause hair loss.
Oily hair needs to be shampooed daily, if not, a problem called seborrhoea, which is a type of dandruff can occur, and this will cause hair loss.

Question

I’ve got long curly hair- no bangs – all the same length. I’ve started going very thin on top at the front. What can I do to stop this from getting worse and how should I wear my hair to make it less obvious? Or can I make my hair grow back.

Answer

Shampoo daily with a shampoo for normal to oily hair and then condition the ends. It sounds as though you are producing too much dihydrotestosterone, which coats the hair and prevents healthy hair growth. Do not wear your hair back in a pony tail as this will put stress on the follicle and worsen your condition. It might do your hair good to trim the front slightly, and have your hair shaped around the face, this will soften the look and make your problem less noticeable.

Diane perhaps you could explain to us what BANGS are?
BANGS are the American terminology for a Fringe.

Question

How come I lose too much hair every time I brush? What can I do?

Answer

On average you should lose between 80 – 100 hairs a day. You lose this during the course of the day and usually only notice a small amount at time if shampooing. However if you use an abundance of hair products or you tie your hair back in a pony tail or day, you will notice more hair loss when you brush or shampoo your hair. This is because your hair is not allowed to shed naturally during the day.
