Heat treatment and Hair Damage Questions

Heat treatment and Hair Damage

This was a very big topic on our survey; obviously a lot of people on our survey have been overdoing it with chemicals and heat treatment on their hair.

Question

How do I protect my hair from heat styling?

Answer

There are now excellent thermal protectors on the market, which double as styling lotions.

Can you suggest a product? Look for thermal protectors such as GHD or Razzamatazz Strait time.

Question

How do you fix hair that is over processed?

Answer

Hair that is over processed will have damage to both the permanent and temporary bonds in the hair shaft. You will need to use restructrants and deep penetrating conditioners to repair the damage done. Hot oil treatments do not work as well. Treatments with both keratin and vegetable proteins work best.
Hair repair treatment kits are your best bet.

Can you suggest a product? Razamatazz hair repair treatment kit, or Aveda deep penetrating conditioner

Question

Do oil treatments really work?

Answer
Not really, they may make your hair feel softer, but are not able to repair damage.

Question

My hair has been literally falling out from using store-bought hair dyes…I need to get something much more hair-friendly or I’ll be bald!! Please let me know what products are extremely easy/soft on the hair.

Answer

You will need to go to a salon and have your hair coloured professionally. Over the counter products tend to contain metallic salts, which may have been the cause of your hair loss. If you have less than 50% grey you could get away with a quasi colour as opposed to a permanent. These are softer on the hair and leave the hair is excellent condition.

Can you suggest a product? Wella Colour touch., if 50% grey or less. Wella Koleston perfect if you need a permanent colour.

Question

I have been dying my hair blonde for over 30 years and once in a while, I screw it up! I now have this blonde dried up mess on top of my head and am ready to head for eggs and mayo!
Help!

Answer

Unfortunately eggs and mayo will not help. The protein molecules of these foods are not small enough to penetrate into the hair shaft. The oils will just sit on your hair and coat the hair, preventing treatment products from being able to penetrate. Use a restructurant conditioner this will repair the damage and give your hair a better appearance.
